Deactivated WW1 Enfield SMLE Rifle

This is a deactivated SMLE Mk 111 Rifle produced by Enfield and date stamped 1916. The iconic Lee-Enfield rifle, the SMLE Mk 111, was introduced on 26 January 1907 along with a pattern 1907 Sword bayonet and featured a simplified rear sight arrangement and a fixed, rather than a bolt-head-mounted sliding, charger guide. The design of the hand guards and the magazine were also improved, and the chamber was adapted to fire the new Mk V11 High Velocity spritzer .303 ammunition. The SMLE was the standard infantry weapon throughout WW1 for British army and Commonwealth forces. This particular example has had the magazine cut off removed, it has the earlier pattern rear sight (not the later pattern Mk111* version), and a square style cocking piece. It is in reasonable condition for its age, and the wood is not patched. Supplied with Birmingham Proof House deactivation certificate.
